Stop #6- Carter House; 1027 N. Fourth Street

The land was purchased by Joseph Carter in 1882. The home was built in 1899. Joseph was an African American laborer in the area. Joseph died in 1916 and his wife Georgie continued to live in the home until it was sold to Warren Logan in 1921.

This home is an example of the homes found in Frenchtown being not of one particular style, but rather a combination of characteristics of styles. There are characteristics of the Federal style such as the boxy shape and hipped roof. The cellar built above the foundation is commonly found in German Single style homes.
