The Frenchtown Seaman

Seaman, a Newfoundland dog, was a member of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, the first trip from the Mississippi River to the Pacific coast and back. He was the only animal to complete the entire three-year trip. The Historic Frenchtown Association (HFA) has acquired a statue of the iconic Newfoundland dog. We will fund the repainting and permanent installation on N. 2nd St. of the Statue. Seaman in his current state can be viewed at 1200 N. 2nd St.

Thank you to everyone that submitted a design for consideration. The Historic Frenchtown Association has entered into a partnership with Frenchtown’s very own The Sacred Heart Academy. The school’s student artists will be designing and painting the Seaman statue, to be unveiled later in 2024.
